She wouldn’t get away with it
He felt his face turn red like a ripe tomato. Why would someone be so unnecessarily rude to them? What had he done to deserve such treatment? It’s not that he even liked being here. He just whistled donuts and baked them all day.
At that moment Adam felt anger burn inside him. It felt like hot coals in his chest and it wanted to go back to the woman who had done this to him. She couldn’t get away with something like that.
He dreamed of something much bigger
Adam Smith worked in his hometown bakery. He didn’t really like the job, but he paid his bills. What he dreamed was to play on the stage and sing his heart into a full stadium.
He felt his talents were being wasted baking in the bakery. Then on a pouring Monday morning, like any other Adam, something would happen that he would never forget.
Beginning of his shift
Adam gets into his car and rubs his tired eyes, ready for another strenuous shift in the bakery. As he drove down the freeway humming on the radio, he hoped his shift would fly by and he could be back in his home studio jamming full force. He had to get up early to get ready and get to work on time. She felt dazed when he opened the front door to the bakery and went inside. He hoped his day would pass quickly so that he could hurry home and continue writing his song at home.
He looked around the bakery, it looked the same as always. He sighed and looked out the window at the cold, damp street. He thought today was a normal day, but he didn’t know what was coming.
The managing director
His shift had just started, he washed his hands every day, put on his apron and prepared for the day. At that moment the manager stormed through the door and Adam could see that something was wrong.
When he saw Adam, he made his way over to him, just hoping he hadn’t done anything wrong. What was the problem?
The manager was upset because before he walked through the door to the bakery, he noticed poop outside on the floor. At least it wasn’t anywhere near the food, but it would still drive customers away.
Adam was the first person the manager had seen so of course he asked him to clean it up. Adam nodded his head with every intention of doing so. Just as he was walking to the door, a customer came in.
Adam smiled and was about to greet her warmly when she bluntly asked for four donuts. Adam gritted his teeth and said, “Sure.” He took out a box and put four donuts in it.
And he knew exactly how to do it. Before Adam could even close the box, she shouted that the donuts didn’t have enough jam. Adam said, “Sorry,” and before he could even take it out, she barked at him to add more. He could see that her ever-increasing aggression and impatience would make her difficult.
He knew how to get his revenge
“Ok, miss,” Adam replied in a polite voice. But in his mind he already knew how to get it back. We went in the back and pulled out a donut that was already filled. It wasn’t about pride, it was about vengeance. She deserved it, however, how dare she be so rude.
He came back with the “donut” from the back of the store while he was planning his plan. She had no idea what was coming.
Give her the ‘donut’
Adam politely said “Here you go Miss” as he handed her the donut. She took it from him without a thank you and carried it out of the store where she parked her car.
Adam didn’t care about her rudeness, it was the principle and he couldn’t let her escape without learning her lesson. He knew it would be satisfying too.
Go back to your car
Adam watched the woman through the window as she walked back to her car. As she got closer, his pulse quickened. He wanted to see justice.
As she was about to open her car door, she stopped and looked down at her package. She decided she wanted her donut now. Adam watched happily as she opened her mouth and took a bite. The filling of the donut was something she didn’t expect.
Not what she expected
As her mouth wrapped around the donut, her eyes widened as jam exploded from her mouth and donut as her white blouse with jam turned orange.
As Adam watched the scene unravel, he couldn’t help but burst out laughing. She asked for more jam, didn’t she? Well, he hoped she’d learned her lesson.
Even more filling
You see when Adam took the donut and walked in the back, he went to the donut filling machine.
He took the already filled donut and pumped three more loads of fruit jam into it. And then another pump. It looked like it was ready to explode!
Got what she wanted
Adam’s manager found the incident less funny, but then realized the irony. As Adam watched the woman try to tidy up outside and mumble softly, she looked up and her eyes met Adam’s eyes.
Like meeting the archenemy in battle in a field, she took a step forward. But Adam knew she couldn’t come in and complain. After all, she got exactly what she asked for.
