Top 10 Really Horrible Biblical Entities [COMPETITION]

[COMPETITION: This list includes a competition. See the bottom of the list for more details.] Humans have always been fascinated by monsters and creatures, especially those that make them feel small and shy. Religious texts and folklore are filled with descriptions of such things, and the Holy Bible is no exception. This book ranges from fire-breathing dragons to angels with lion faces. Of course, many of them are also seen as future visions or signs that remind us of the past, but that doesn't make them any less scary. And so here are 10 biblical entities that would even give Satan the Lord of Hell the occasional nightmare.

10 Nephilim [19659005] “There we saw the Nephilim (the Anakites come from the Nephilim); and for ourselves we looked like grasshoppers, and so we seemed to them. "- Numbers 13:33

When the Israelite spies explored the land of Canaan instead of being greeted with milk and honey, they certainly weren't expecting these giants.

Popular beliefs state that the Nephilim are the descendants of fallen angels and mortal women, or that the angels owned godless men to have children with women. Another view is that they were born when men from the Seth lineage (Adam and Eve's third son and a just man) disobeyed God and married Cain lineage women, who of course need no introduction. An even crazier but unbiblical rumor is that they were aliens. What we can be sure of is that, according to the spies' report, they left quite a picture in the minds of Moses and his undefeated Israelite army. [1]

9 The second animal

“Then I saw another animal that was ascending the earth; It had two horns like a lamb and spoke like a dragon. “- Apocalypse (Revelation) 13:11

Don't be fooled by the short illustration. Indeed, this is one of the most iconic animals in the Book of the Apocalypse, where demons and devils are the norm.

Although it appears to be an indestructible force in itself, its intentions are very different. The Bible goes on to explain that it is almost like a hype man for the infamous First Beast, making people worship the latter, create illusions, and scary enough to kill anyone who does not obey the order. What's really interesting is that some scholars see the Second Beast as a future political or religious leader who convinces the world population to follow them. Eyes open everyone, you never know who it can be. [2]

8 The first animal

“And I saw an animal with ten horns and seven heads rising from the sea; and there were ten diadems on his horn, and blasphemous names on his heads. And the animal I saw was like a leopard, its feet were like that of a bear and its mouth was like that of a lion. "- Apocalypse 13: 1-2

You can never talk about the second animal without including the first. Why should you settle at one when you can have two?

Even Saint John of Patmos ( the author of the Book of the Apocalypse) had trouble describing this monstrosity. The Bible goes on to say that the dragon gave him authority, presumably Satan, and that he had a serious wound. I wonder where that comes from also says that humans worship this beast because no one can defeat it for them. I don't blame them. Similar to the interpretations of the second animal, the first animal is also seen as a whole empire or perhaps as a new world order. [3]

7 The Four Animals by Daniel

"The first was like a lion and had eagle wings. Then when I watched, its wings were torn off, and it was lifted off the ground and stood like a human on two legs ate; and a human spirit was given to him. "- Daniel 7: 4

Sounds like something straight out of a horror film or something straight out of the book Daniel.

In summary, the four animals are described as a lion with eagle wings, a bear, a leopard and a mysterious fourth animal. Although this may seem petty to most readers, the Bible describes the bear as "three ribs in the mouth between the teeth", the leopard as "four wings of a poultry" and "four heads" and the fourth animal with "large iron teeth" and " ten horns ". We don't feel very safe anymore, do we? However, most of Daniel's visions were figurative, and in fact these four animals symbolized four great kingdoms of the time: Babylon (lion), Medes and Persia (bear), Greece (leopard) and the Roman Empire (last animal). [19659020] 6 Cherubim

“As for the appearance of their faces: the four had the face of a human being, the face of a lion on the right Side, the face of an ox on the left and the face of an eagle; that's how their faces were. "- Ezekiel 1: 10-11

And we all thought they were the little, innocent little angels you see in church paintings …

In fact, they are just the opposite. The cherubim are described in the Bible as blazing, extraordinary celestial bodies that had a fairly prestigious image among humans. They are also mentioned to guard the path to the Tree of Life in the Garden of Eden after Adam and Eve were banished, and are also known to have sculptures of themselves in the Ark. In several cases in the Bible, they are known to be angels who are very close to God, and so clearly they should not be messed up. [5]

Top 10 Biblical Contradictions That Don't Exist

5 Four Apocalyptic Riders

“I checked and there was a light green horse! His rider's name was Death, and Hades followed; They were given authority over a quarter of the earth to kill with sword, hunger and pestilence and from the wild animals of the earth. “- Apocalypse 6: 8

Imagine Hades, indeed the Greek god of death, who is after a man on a horse. This is serious business.

The four horsemen are considered the best known sign of the apocalypse and have become a familiar sight in society. However, almost everyone agrees that these men are symbols of conquest (the white horse), war (the red horse), famine (the black horse), and death (the green horse). There is more speculation about who the white horse rider is. Some take the obvious answer and say it is Jesus after the rider's appearance, while many think outside the box and say it is the Antichrist. Whoever they are, keep in mind that of the seven seals in Apocalypse 6, these are only the first four. Oh man. [6]

4 200 million riders

“The riders wore breastplates in the color of fire, sapphire and sulfur. The horses' heads were like lion heads, and fire, smoke and sulfur came from their mouths. -Apocalypse 9:17

It is true there are 200 million more to round out the madness of the previous four.

Not to be confused with the four riders, this horde of killers is part of the events that take place during the sound of the seven trumpets in the Apocalypse 9. When I look at the descriptions, I'm not even sure what these things are. Lion-headed and fire-breathing horses storm in from the Euphrates. It's really a spectacular scene. What is stunning is what is that due to the exact geographic location and the amazing population in Asia, there is an astonishing size and some believe that this school of riders could be a modern army from united Asian nations, I just hope that they don’t ride fire-breathing horses. [7]

3 Abaddon's Pit Insects

“There were gold crowns on their heads, their faces were human e Faces, their hair like women's hair and their teeth like dandelions. They had scales like iron breastplates. -Apocalypse 9: 7-8

And you thought normal grasshoppers were bad enough!

Together with the 200 million riders, these beasts are responsible for the death of a full THIRD man. Locusts have been and still are feared in society for their ability to efficiently destroy food supplies, but the Bible says that they are ordered not to touch a single harvest, but to torture those who do not bear the Lord's mark on their foreheads. Its controversial leader, the angel Abaddon, is believed to be either an angel in God's army or a fallen angel. What you can dissuade is that not many people think it's a metaphor … [8]

2 Behemoth

“His strength lies in his loins and his strength in the muscles of his stomach. It stiffens his tail like a cedar; The thighs are knitted together. His bones are bronze tubes, his limbs like iron bars. -Job 40: 16-18

Now we have reached the front runners.

The name itself means "huge" and "monstrous" in today's society. The Book of Job contains vivid descriptions of two of God's most powerful creations, one of which is the Behemoth. It is believed to be the original agricultural being and feared by many animals for its mighty roar. No matter how hair-raising its description is, it is said to be mostly peaceful because it has never been corrupted by chaos and also because it is an herbivore. The authentic descriptions of his tail make some believe it is a biblical dinosaur, while others believe it is a distant ancestor of today's hippo or elephant. [9]

1 Leviathan

“Smoke comes out of his nostrils like from a boiling pot and burning rushes. His breath ignites coals and a flame comes out of his mouth. Strength remains on his neck and terror dances in front of him. -Job 41: 20-22

I think it is worth noting that the entire job 41 is dedicated to this abnormality.

Without them, no list of biblical creatures that is considered God's most powerful creation would be complete. While Behemoth controlled the country, Leviathan was the big boss of the oceans and unfortunately not nearly as peaceful as his monster cousin, since chaos corrupted and changed it after it was created. Big RIP for us. The Bible tells us that God actually defeated this monster, although it is most likely an allegory for a kingdom before you start celebrating. Similar to the Behemoth, some believe Leviathan is a dinosaur at sea, while others believe that he is the mutant ancestor of today's crocodile or whale, but the last time I checked I didn't think they were breathing fire. + Competition

Since this list is the Bible (the first for some time), we are running a competition. All you have to do to enter is to be a registered commentator and comment on the list. Simply register with Disqus, Twitter, Google, Facebook or Listverse to become a participant. Three commentators on this list (chosen at random so that no country has an advantage) will receive a beautiful leather-bound copy of the Bible shown above (worth $ 125).

It is the Haydock Douay-Rheims Bible – a beautiful edition with the complete books (some Bibles have fewer books than others) in very simple but elegant English. It is unique in that it contains the extensive Haydock commentary – explanations and important information about each verse in the book, as found in the writings of great Christian thinkers throughout history. This is the Bible edition that I use myself for research for Listverse. It also contains a biblical dictionary and a history of the Bible.

It's a big book – family size – so it's worth typing it in. Comments have to be coherent and to the point – comments that are obviously published without relevance to the topic will not be considered. This is not a competition for the United States only. If you come from Timbuktu, you can still enter. The contest ends tonight at 11:59 p.m. (California time). You can enter as many times as you like, but make sure that all of your comments contribute to the discussion in a useful way.
