Boredom is generally viewed as an uncomfortable and undesirable emotion that we must evade from the moment it arises. However, some psychologists believe that boredom is good for you as long as you don’t let it last too long.
Boredom can promote creativity, reduce stress, inspire new ideas and motivate us to achieve new goals. However, if we are bored for too long, our boredom can become toxic and lead us to take unnecessary risks or develop harmful addictions.
So the advice is to embrace your boredom and enjoy it, and then live a creative, productive life that is full of new ideas and new goals.
But before you get into that part, here are 10 websites you might find useful to get you through the boring part.

0 A little chemistry goes a long way
Visit Little Alchemy →
In the interest of research for this article, I started a simple little game. Start with four basic elements, fire, earth, air and water, and combine them to make as many different things as possible. After 8 hours of Little Alchemy, I did 113 new things. Only about 400 left. Oh dear.
Knowledge of basic chemistry can help a little, if not as much.
It can be incredibly frustrating. I’m still trying to figure out how to create a cow even though I have a flying fish, an angel, and a jedi knight so I’m not feeling bad.
If you’re really stuck there are some pointers out there, although some may consider cheating. (However, if you know how to make a cow please let me know in the comments below.)
A word of warning: if you manage to finish the game and find all the items, the creators have now released Little Alchemy 2.
Before you start you need to ask yourself how bored you are.
9 Be patient, they are out there
Visit some Shark Cams →
If your boredom is so bad that you don’t bother to do something, you can always try shark hunting. We’re not talking about spears or nets, and certainly not deep-sea photography, which sounds very exhausting and doesn’t fit the definition of boring at all.
No, we’re talking about something less active overall. Why not just look for sharks on a webcam? You have to be patient because often all you will see is cloudy water, but the occasional small fish or large shark swim in sight.
It has to be worth the wait? Get a large bowl of snacks, sit back, relax, and wait for Jaws to find you.
8th Where in the world am i
Visit Geoguesser →
If you think you have traveled well or want others to believe you are, then you can try looking at Geoguesser.
You can play for free once a day when you are taken anywhere in the world via Google Maps Street View. The question is where?
There are hints on the pictures, but be careful, they are often small. Sometimes very small.
While at first glance you might think that a dusty road might be somewhere in the middle of nowhere, in fact it is always somewhere. Look for street signs, landmarks, and even license plates for a clue.
Of course, if this website is your thing, you can sign up for more locations.
7th Become a researcher
Visit Zooniverse →
Just because you’re bored doesn’t mean you can’t be productive. At Zooniverse, you can participate in real research experiments. Current experiments include Monkey See, which lets you classify wildlife, including monkeys, or Bash the Bug, which asks you to examine and classify bacteria under a microscope.
If science or classification isn’t really your thing, you could transcribe some anti-slavery manuscripts. You will likely need a laptop for this while the ability to read faded copper plate handwriting would be useful. The manuscripts are kept by the Boston Public Library and include around 40,000 handwritten documents, letters, newspapers and memorabilia related to the anti-slavery movement. They are currently being transcribed and put online for the benefit of students. Researchers and humanity.
In fact, around 50 projects are currently looking for researchers. In addition to science and medicine, there are projects related to art, history, languages, nature and climate change, to name just a few.
You don’t have to do much. Many projects rely on a very large number of people who each make very little effort. However, there is often an opportunity to get more involved once you are no longer bored and seek inspiration instead.
6 To infinity
Visit X →
When your boredom knows no bounds, you can always look to the sky for inspiration.
Space.com has everything you need. For example, there’s all the news about the space shuttle’s latest launch – the Perseverance rover, which launched towards Mars on July 30th and carries the helicopter that will be used to explore the surface of Mars when it lands in February 2021.
You can follow the astronauts who are currently in space, some of whom have been there for four months. You can explore space, learn astronomy, observe the sky and talk to other space fans about all things in the world.
Or, if all of this sounds too strenuous to you, you can just sit and watch the world go by via NASA live-stream images of the earth from space. If you mute the music, you can watch it pretty calmly as the world goes on turning.

5 A little light music
Visit X →
Making music is a good way to pass the time. If you already have an instrument, you have a head start. Those new to their instrument can practice while experienced musicians can compose their own pieces.
But if you are the type of person who never stuck to those piano lessons, don’t worry, incredulity is.com here to help you out.
Try the free features and make cute music. The program allows you to combine melody, harmony and even just sounds to create your own unique melody.
And unlike in real life, where learning an instrument can be painful not only for the musician but also for those who need to hear it, with an incredulous box you can’t fail to make a great melody. No bum grades, guaranteed.
4th Let yourself be swallowed up in a black hole
Visit the Gravity Points →
Have you ever thought about gravity, space, or why every planet in the solar system moves in orderly circles? When we wonder about such things, the answers are usually so long, complicated, and, yes, boring that we soon lose interest.
But what if there was a website where you could experiment with gravity in space without having to first learn Newton’s boring law of gravity?
Now you can. With astronomical objects floating aimlessly in space, you can click on your screen and create a center of gravity. Now watch how the astronomical objects begin to move on and around them. Add another point of gravity and watch them pull towards each other to eventually merge into a black hole. This creates a stronger force of gravity, which forces the astronomical objects to rotate beautiful and fascinating orbital planes around the black hole.
As the gravitational pull increases, the objects rotating around them move closer and closer to the source of gravity, until they are finally sucked into the black hole and a big bang starts the process all over again.
No lectures here, just the fun of building and exploding universes over and over again.
3 Eat shoots and leaves
Visit omglasergunpewpewpew →
Thinking is great, of course. Where would we be without it? But sometimes when we’re bored we really want to do something completely more pointless.
Sometimes you just want something where you just eat and shoot. Leave it to us. And also to omglasergunpewpewpew.
As the name suggests, this is an online game, but there are no levels, no prizes, you don’t even have to register. Just choose your character and start shooting the bad guy. Oh and eat some peaches. Why peaches? No idea.
One word of caution, the game seems to be endless so you may be spending more time on this website than you intended. You may want to set an alarm.
2 Like a bear, but not a bear
Visit BoredPanda →
If you’re not bored, are you the creative type? Just need a little inspiration to get creative again?
Walk to Bored Panda and see what other people have created.
Bored Panda is a website where creative people can showcase their work and the things that inspire them. However, it is much more than a collection of other people’s pictures.
Do you need to know how to properly close your cereal box to keep your cereal fresh? Do you want to crochet little dragons? Or would you like to make a chief tank out of toilet paper tubes and pizza boxes and take a picture of your cat sitting in it? Of course you do. Who wouldn’t?
Whatever ridiculous, bizarre, or fabulous you want to do, there’s likely someone at Bored Panda who has done something similar. You can check them out for their hints, tips, and sometimes mistakes, because honestly, they’re fun too.
1 The whole world. In a list.
Visit the Listverse front page →
Finally, of course, there are list verses. You never have to be bored here again.
Whatever your interest, there is a list for you. Science, technology, crime, movies, weird things (and we all like the weird things, don’t we?), The whole wide weird world is here.
And what more could you need to keep the boredom at bay with several carefully researched, carefully sourced, and beautifully written articles every day?
Listverse has been around since 2007, so there are many items to choose from. When you’ve read today’s new articles, why don’t you search the archives.
You can either choose your favorite topic from the menu and submenus above and browse the articles there or, if you’re feeling brave, select the Random List button at the top of the screen and learn new things, sometimes amazing but always interesting things about the world in who we live. Have fun.
