Top 10 Annoying Movie Props

Some films only exist to freak people out. Or just twist them. To achieve this, some studios spend a lot of time creating really creepy props. This list includes just a few of the film props that have given viewers more than just a few chills over the years.

Warning: Some of these pictures are rather annoying and not suitable for sensitive viewers.

Top 10 creepy scenes in movies

10th Bear suit – Midsommar

The Midsommar movie was really nothing to write home about, but the scenes of the elderly jumping off a cliff and suffering terrible injuries (including a facial rash) are pretty worrying. The most terrible part comes at the end of the film, however, when one of the male characters, Christian, is dressed in a bear suit and burned alive.

The bear suit was recently auctioned off along with a racket, which is also used in the film to raise funds for charities that help communities and front workers during the Covid 19 crisis.[1]

9 Throwing Star – Jeepers Creepers 2

While The Creeper won’t go down as the scariest monster in film history, he does some pretty unsettling things in the Jeepers Creepers films. It’s like cutting a cop’s head off with a battle ax and making one of his throwing stars out of student Darry Jenner’s belly button after he killed him. All throwing stars that he uses are made from the bones, flesh, teeth and fillings of his victims.[2]

8th Life-size Regan doll – the exorcist

This could be the very last thing anyone wants to see in their house in the dark of the night. Or anywhere else. The exorcist film still holds up over the years and this life-size dummy is about as creepy as the Regan character itself. The head of the dummy not only looks freaky, but can also rotate 180 degrees (as in one of the most memorable Scenes from the film), which is pretty annoying in and of itself.

The dummy now lives in the Museum of Moving Images, NYC.[3]

7 Mutant Twin – Total Recall (1990)

Total Recall is not a horror movie or even scary, but the scenes with the mutant twin are pretty freaky. Given that the first Total Recall film was released in 1990, the special effects for the mutant baby Kuato hold up pretty well. In the picture above, the full body suit with Kuato is hung between the shots to dry.[4]

6 Glass Hands – Wrong Turn (2003)

Wrong Turn is a gorefest from start to finish where a cannibal family violently clears anyone who crosses their path. During the film, one of the characters finds a severed ear on the floor, another is hit by a raging car, and another has an ax in half. A particularly cruel scene shows that the murderous family keeps a collection of body parts in glasses. This includes teeth, organs and limbs.[5]

5 Deformed Baby – The Hills Have Eyes 2

While The Hills Have Eyes 2 wasn’t the best horror movie and only got 12% on Rotten Tomatoes, the graphic scene, in which a reserved woman is born and then killed, is about as troubling as it comes. It gets worse when the baby is shown to resemble the film’s cannibalistic mutant killers.[6]

4th Stapled Wall Corpse – The Collection

The collection is a psychological slasher film that is responsible for one of the most disturbing scenes in any scary movie. The murderer in the film is called The Collector and from this one picture it is clear why. The prop called Stapled Wall Corpse is for sale and looks just as distracting as in the movie.[7]

3rd Charlie’s head – hereditary

Hereditary offers one of the most shocking beheading scenes in film history. In the course of the scene it is unclear whether the young girl Charlie who is losing her head is actually dead or not. However, it becomes crystal clear when her head is in the middle of the street, covered with ants and flies.

It took some extremely detailed work to create the animatronic puppet used for the beheading scene. The result is stunning and extremely scary.[8]

2nd Reverse bear trap – saw

The reverse bear trap is one of the most horrific torture instruments used in Saw. A victim’s head is trapped and secured with a padlock. In the first Saw film, the trap had to be unlocked within 60 seconds, otherwise the trap would burst open and tear the victim’s face apart.

The reverse bear trap shown in this photo is a replica of the original prop.[9]

1 Human guitar – from dawn to dawn

In the horror action film From Dusk to Dawn, Quentin Tarantino, George Clooney, Harvey Keitel, Juliette Lewis and Salma Hayek play the leading role. The plot is about a group of brothers in robbery who end up in a strip club in Mexico, where they realize that the bar workers are vampires. The film is full of strange and disturbing scenes, but one stands out above all. At some point a band member plays a guitar from a human torso, to which the head is still attached and a leg protrudes.[10]
