While RoboCop Fans were eagerly anticipating a new film that would canonically scrap the two sequels (and presumably the animated series RoboCop plays in) brings peace to the Middle East), it doesn’t seem to be happens anytime soon. After the crappy 2014 remake, we’ve got the closest thing to a new one RoboCop Film in recent years is sad those KFC commercials in which a goatee throws RoboCop fried chicken at hooligans and inexplicably threatens to murder innocent families. But now the original screenwriter Ed Neumeier has announced that he is developing a new show that will be featured in the RoboCop Universe is all about … um, that guy?
Yeah, the new show isn’t about RoboCop or Anne Lewis or even the guy RoboCop shoots in the balls, it’s about Dick Jones, the senior vice president of Omni Consumer Products and the Villain of the original film. The series would be called Prequel The film documents the company’s early success in the business world. Think Succession but with a lot more giant murder bots. Worryingly, Neumeier suggests that we are interested in young Jones because “nobody necessarily starts being the bad guy”. And if there’s one thing America is desperately longing for right now, it’s stories about how slimy billionaires are secretly pretty cool.
Perhaps the silliest part of all of this, even if we accept the premise of a prequel series that focuses on a RoboCop Villain, You didn’t even pick the best bad guy. Sure, Clarence Boddicker’s story would be much more interesting; The enigmatic lunatic of Kurtwood Smith, who, as comedian Roy Wood Jr. pointed out, formed Detroit’s most racially diverse evil gang.
But it seems so RoboCop takes the Hunger games routeWe ditch our hero in favor of the youthful adventures of a creepy idiot we all hate. Personally, we’d rather see a bio about the ups and downs of the “I would buy this for a dollar” man’s career in the entertainment industry.
