Is the heat index real?

A dung heap in Spain lit on June 27 and sparked a devastating fire that struck more than 10,000 acres of forest and other Catalan landscapes, CNN reports.

The manure burned in part due to a searing heatwave that hit Europe this week. Temperatures in the affected region were 104 ° F and Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic all reached record June temperatures.

Catalan Interior Minister Miquel Buch reported that the authorities believe the manure was mismanaged at a chicken farm in the village of La Torre de l'Espanyol, where he was exposed to the worst of the heat.

The most devastating devastating fire in Spain for 20 years hits the region west of Tarragona, a port city best known for its Roman ruins, located on the Balearic coast about 1

00 km southwest of Barcelona.

The fire department consists of about 350 firefighters, 12 fire engines, seven aircraft, two seaplanes and additional vehicles with water tanks. All these techniques are regularly used to combat massive flames.

It is expected that the high temperatures will continue and the rough terrain itself will also contribute to the rapid spread of the fire. However, the strong winds should soon subside. The authorities have warned people to stay inside. Although more than 50 people have been evacuated from the area, no deaths have been reported so far.

The spontaneous combustion of combustible materials such as manure, hay or compost is quite possible, but this is not the most common way to trigger forest fires. Common causes include burning cigarettes, unattended campfires, burning debris and engine sparks.
