As early as February 2020, Disney dropped an exciting bomb on Broadway lovers, history buffs, and almost everyone else: a stage performance by Hamilton was shot live during the original cast, and that was it on the way to the theaters (and later Disney +). However, since it wouldn't be released until October 15, 2021, we would have to hug and wait for our inner Aaron Burr.
Today Disney announced that the long wait is almost over. Hamilton on Broadway with Lin-Manuel Miranda, Leslie Odom Jr., Daveed Diggs, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Phillipa Soo and the rest of this now legendary first cast can be streamed from Disney + July 3, 2020. [1
But also for people who were lucky enough to see Alexander Hamilton's story throughout their musical theater, fame, not many have seen Miranda in the title role; He left the show in July 2016, just about a month after his musical took home 11 Tony Awards.
The upcoming opportunity to see Hamilton at home is an urgently needed morale boost for a quarantined nation and it is also a major advertising boost for Disney +. With many productions that have been postponed after the corona virus pandemic, this highly anticipated streaming gem has the potential to keep Disney + subscribers all summer (and of course attract some new customers too).
