Starting a business is not for the faint of heart. There is still a lot of work to be done right at the start (and may not have been completed depending on how you want to structure your business). Few long hours and a lot to go from starting the basics to continuing a profitable business way.
To be really happy to take on all of this hard work, maybe extra work when you start a sideline, you should have a good reason to start your business. It could be because you know you are a good leader or because you want to provide a better future for your family. You may not find a job elsewhere and so decided to create your own. Whatever the reason, if it̵
However, there are some specific reasons people cite when it comes to the reasons for starting a business. They may still keep you focused, but these strange reasons are much more likely to go away when the hard work really starts. Let’s look at some of these and why they shouldn’t be the only reason you’re starting your business.
Become a millionaire
Clearly, money is important and when starting a business it is definitely something to consider. However, starting your own business is not a guaranteed way to become a millionaire, and even if you become extremely successful and make lots of money, it won’t happen right away. It will take many years of very hard work to get there.
For those starting a business just to get very rich and have a luxurious lifestyle within a few months (or even a few years), the idea’s glamor will soon fade if there are no other reasons for the idea. Once they realize that hard work has to come first and that profits may not be possible for a while if they are just starting out, they may give up on the idea altogether and try something else.
Remember, it is perfectly possible to get rich running your own business, but you need to stick with it and be with it for the long term. If you give up, if you don’t do what you want right away, you will never get there.
The lure of fame is omnipresent and just too much for some. They want to be famous people, they want to be invited to the best parties, and they want to be famous for being great business people. Again it can be done; Think of the entrepreneurs on Shark Tank like Katrina Lake, Mark Cuban, and Phil Crowley. They are all familiar names, but it didn’t happen by accident. First they built their business empires and then they had access to agents and producers who could get them where they wanted to go.
Even if you make a ton of money, if you’re just good at business, there is no guarantee that anyone will ever hear from you. There are thousands of successful business people in the world who no one knows, but that does not reduce their performance. They might like the idea of being on TV or being famous for being famous, but that’s not why they started their business. While this would be an added bonus, don’t waste too much time on it.
To annoy someone else
When you get into business, you really have to want it. You have worked for this over the years, gained experience, and maybe even returned to school for a masters degree in distance learning in the UK or a specific business degree, or anything else that you think will help you. You missed family events and even vacations just to get your idea off the ground.
Would you do all of this, work so hard and sacrifice so much to annoy someone else? Some people would. For some, the idea of getting successful in business, even if it is something they really hate and that makes them extremely miserable, is enough to get themselves and their loved ones through these troubles.
If for any other reason you want to start a business and the fact that you can prove to someone else, someone who never thought you would be good at what you do, you can be a by-product of that enjoy the feeling. However, to achieve that your only goal is weird, it will only make you miserable, and in the end no vengeance or gratification is worth it.
