You have probably heard of many different types of allergies that plague people internationally. In the United States alone, more than 50 million people suffer from it. From tree nut to shellfish allergies, these symptoms can be very dangerous if not handled with care. It is more than likely that someone in your family or group of friends had an allergy doctor. Normally they have to wear an Epi-Pen or the newer Auvi-Q, just in case of a severe allergic reaction. The worst allergic reactions can put people in anaphylactic shock that causes shortness of breath, vomiting, fainting, low blood pressure and even the possibility of death.
Yet, there are many allergies that you do not always hear about those that seem so random that you wonder where they come from. Maybe you have personally dealt with one of them or know someone with one. While food allergies tend to be more common, many of these unusual diseases are referred to as physical urticaria. This is a neat way of saying that the allergen causes itchy, red hives and rashes. Physical urticarias usually deal with physical stimulants ̵
10 Cold Urticaria
This allergy, commonly referred to as a common cold, causes allergies to break down hives due to temperature drops. For some it is enough to dive into an ice-cold pool to induce anaphylaxis. This allergy can become very dangerous very quickly. Exposure to cold leads to the development of itchy rashes and hives. The reactions to the cold can vary from very little reactions to hives to fainting and shock. Swelling of the tongue or throat is also possible with this allergy.
This allergy is more common in young adults and can be the result of underlying health conditions. It can also be genetic, so that several people in the same family could have it. Nevertheless, it can still be treated with over-the-counter allergy medications.
A reaction in which only about four percent of the population are affected is dermographism, which may be considered allergic to touch. That sounds wild, but you've probably already seen the effects of this effect when you're on the internet. It allows sufferers to write words on their skin with their fingernails and make them visible.
The word "dermographism" essentially means "skin writing". In fact, it is a rash that is caused by touch and will eventually disappear within half an hour. Dermographism can also be controlled with antihistamines, which can help in the irritation of hives.
8 Solar Urticaria
Another physical urticaria, this allergy, causes people to develop hives when exposed to sunlight. This would definitely be tough for summer people, as it would make shooting out in the sun rather difficult. A reaction can also emanate from an artificial light source that emits UV rays. Overall, this disease is very rare, but most often appears to be in the mid-thirties.
People with this problem can avoid allergic reactions mostly through sunscreen strategies or by taking antihistamines. The goal should be to minimize sun exposure and avoid rashes. In addition, patients can sometimes undergo phototherapy or photochemotherapy, which can help them get used to the sun, especially if their allergy is very severe and makes life extremely difficult.
7 Exercise Allergy
Exercise is hard enough without worrying about anaphylaxis. Unfortunately, some people may have severe allergic reactions if they exercise too much. In these situations, they may become anaphylaxis after going to the gym or participating in other physical activities. Interestingly, there are several factors that may play a role in this response, including food, medication, and weather conditions. Sometimes eating certain foods before exercise can lead to anaphylaxis, which is known as food-borne exercise-induced anaphylaxis.
This disease can be unexpected and severe enough to be fatal. Nevertheless, it is still possible to treat it with epinephrine.
6 Aquagenic Urticaria
Some wonder if water is wet, while others ask if water allergies are legitimate. There is no solid answer to the first question, but it has been shown that water allergies are real. Scientifically known as aquagent urticaria, this allergy can trigger a hives when an affected person goes into the water. That sounds unbelievable because we are constantly surrounded and mostly made up of water.
The doctors are still not sure how exactly this allergy has arisen, but like the other physical urticaria they can be treated with antihistamines.
5 Cockroach Allergy
Cockroaches are coarse enough, without them they are also allergens. For unfortunates, however, an allergy to them is a real thing. Normally, this leads to asthmatic symptoms due to the proteins released from the cockroach's body. In order to cope with such an allergy, you need to keep your home clean and eliminate any dead cockroaches, as even they can cause an allergy reaction. Surprisingly, people who are allergic to shellfish can sometimes be allergic to cockroaches as they release a similar protein.
People with cockroach allergy can even come into contact with hives if they touch a spot where a cockroach has run or shit. On the other hand, it gives people with this allergy even more reason to avoid cockroaches at all costs.
4 Artificial Nail Allergy
Artificial nails are very popular and trendy. They look cute and are available in different shapes, sizes and colors. Doing your nails is fun, but some people may experience complications. For some, the adhesives cause swelling, redness and pain in the nail beds.
The cause of these symptoms is an allergy to the chemical ethyl methacrylate monomer. It is commonly used in acrylic nails and is FDA approved. For people with this allergy, it's better to stick to or even reveal simple, simple nail polish than to suffer from such an allergy.
3 Nickel Allergy
Change tends to be annoying to most people – what can you do with a bunch of coins at all? For some it goes on. In particular, people with nickel allergies can not hold high nickel contents of coins without getting a bad rash and itching. Sometimes blisters can even occur for weeks. This is not just for simple coins – people with nickel allergies may have difficulty wearing jewelry that contains metal. This can be problematic, especially when trying to buy something sweet to wear with an outfit.
This condition is more common in women and in people with other sensitivities to metals. The best way to deal with this is simply to avoid prolonged exposure to the metal so as not to have such a negative reaction. Fortunately, hypoallergenic jewelry is made only for this type of situation.
2 Raw fruit and vegetable allergy
While food allergies are common, raw fruit and vegetable allergies differ slightly. Those affected can not eat raw fruits or vegetables without the neck swelling. The allergic reaction can actually be very severe. This allergy is also referred to as oral allergy syndrome. The negatively influenced fruits include pears, peaches, apricots, apples, kiwis and many others. The most common allergies in the vegetable spectrum are celery, carrots, parsley, coriander and more.
The reason for such an allergy is related to hay fever and people who have problems with pollen It is estimated that 70 percent of people with pollen allergies are prone to a raw fruit or vegetable allergy are. The body realizes that a protein in certain raw fruits and vegetables resembles the pollen molecules and causes a severe allergic reaction.
1 Sweat Allergy
Yes, you read that correctly. There are people in the world who are really allergic to their own sweat. This condition, called cholinergic urticaria, is due to an increase in body temperature, which usually causes sweating. People with this allergy can even get a reaction from a simple hot bath or spicy food. Those affected tend to experience only hives, but may also experience fever-like symptoms and have breathing problems when exposed to the allergen.
Similar to cold urticaria, the main cause of the allergic reaction is a temperature change, this time from cold to hot. This would lead to a feeling of heat rash and other negative symptoms.
+ Allergy Medicine Allergy
Ironically, there are people who are allergic to allergy medicines. This can be extremely annoying, especially if you are trying to treat a different allergy and are faced with twice as many problems as before. In reality, people are not allergic to the medication altogether, just certain dyes and chemicals. While the response to allergy medications can be so severe that it is life-threatening, there are ways to treat this allergy by going to a specialist. One possibility is to be treated with allergy shots without preservatives or dyes. This is probably the most annoying of all allergies on the list and also the most frustrating.
There are many other allergies that are more or less common and cause a lot of problems for people affected by them. This list included only a few fascinating ones. So many people are affected by allergies, most of which are treated only, can not be cured. For people with allergies, it is important to stay safe – to keep their epi-pens and to avoid any possible allergic reaction. Although it is sometimes shitty to deal with such irritating allergies, this is the only way to keep everyone safe and sound. Hopefully, with our current technological advances, research will find a way to cure allergies that have plagued humanity for centuries. In the meantime we can only wait.
